Safety is at the forefront of all Mele’s activities — in the workplace and on the job site. Our focus is to ensure compliance with all applicable safety laws, codes and issues.
World-class safety can only be achieved when a “culture” of safety has been established and incorporated into the values of the company at all levels. That’s why Mele believes in a top-down approach to safety, with a high degree of participation and a firm commitment by everyone from upper management down to each employee. We believe that everyone working as a team establishes a safety multiplier effect that leads to the essential goal of ensuring every employee goes home at the end of the day without an injury.
Mele & Mele & Sons’ Safety Program is a comprehensive collection of policies and procedures with built-in controls to ensure compliance with government regulations as well as measures to identify and eliminate the hazards inherent to our business. This robust program also includes current safety news, safety activities, reading materials, signs and posters that are easily accessible to all employees.
We believe communication is key in ensuring everyone is implementing the highest safety measures and we frequently educate our team members on the importance of participating in and being accountable for a safe environment. We also go all-out to provide an environment in which employees can make suggestions for improvement and stop work if an unsafe condition or behavior is spotted.
Our Safety Committee meets regularly to discuss the constant improvement of processes and procedures and the organization’s safety performance is reviewed and consistently analyzed by the Safety Committee along with the management team.
Mele’s Safety Program includes:
- Defined health and safety policies, protocols and procedures.
- A formal Preventive Maintenance Program for all production and field equipment.
- Established equipment usage procedures, general production and field installation practices.
- SDS protocols in compliance with OSHA.
- Regular training and certification including Certified Space Entry, Competent Person-Excavation, CPR and other job/equipment training and requirements.
- Emergency procedures and hazard identification and response.
- Zero tolerance drug and alcohol policy.
